Border Patrol agent provides aid to injured driver after vehicle flips

bpA Nogales Station Border Patrol agent provided emergency aid to an injured driver after his vehicle flipped on the northbound side of I-19 Monday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the agent stopped to investigate a red sedan laying on its passenger side in the I-19 median. The agent, a trained emergency medical technician, approached the sedan and found an adult male still in his seatbelt but hanging toward the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver said he had briefly lost consciousness. The agent noticed an open head wound and immediately radioed for emergency medical services. While the agent waited, he got the bleeding under control and kept the man talking.

Soon the Tubac Fire and Rescue, Santa Cruz County Sheriff, and Department of Public Safety responders arrived on scene and extracted the driver by removing the vehicle’s roof.

Border Patrol agents frequently shift from law enforcement to rescue mode. By working with local, state, federal and tribal agencies, the Border Patrol increases the availability of emergency services available to the public.
The Border Patrol, along with Customs and Border Protection, welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free. All calls will be answered and remain anonymous.
