Apply now for Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp

fire 400 (194)The US Forest Service Southwestern Region is seeking a small group of career focused women to be on-call Wildland Firefighters for the 2015 fire season. These on-call positions will provide support to wildland fire operations over the summer and can help pave the way for future employment and career advancement with the Forest Service.

Approximately 15-20 applicants will be selected. Their first assignment will be to attend the Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp in March, which provides a comprehensive firefighter training and orientation. Those who successfully complete the training and pass a physical fitness test (also known as the Work Capacity Test will be fully qualified Wildland Firefighters, meeting the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Red Card Qualification Standards.

The Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp will be held March 6-8 and March 13-15 in Mesa, AZ (attendance both weekends required. The deadline for applications is Feb 13.

Although the training focuses on women in wildland fire, all interested persons are encouraged and invited to attend. No previous experience is required. Additional information and the application are available on the Forest Service Region 3 Fire and Aviation website.
