Officers arrested Rogelio J. Lopez-Hernandez, 23, and his 42-year-old mother, Elicet Hernandez-Acosta, both legal permanent resident aliens from Cuba living in Phoenix. Officers conducting a secondary inspection of his Audi sedan discovered 115 packages of marijuana weighing nearly 135 pounds and worth more than $67,000. A search of a pedestrian crosser discovered there were packages of marijuana strapped to his legs
Later in the day, officers arrested a 17-year-old Phoenix resident after finding two packages of marijuana wrapped around his legs during an inspection at the pedestrian crossing. The drugs, weighing more than two pounds combined, are worth an estimated $1,100.
Officers seized all drugs and vehicles, and referred all three subjects to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
