The Tucson Police Department, with the Oro Valley Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has arrested 41-year-old Gene Garland in connection to four separate bank robberies.
On April 28, 2015, an adult male suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 3275 N. Swan Road. The suspect handed the teller a note, demanding money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled the bank before police arrived. On May 4, 2015, the suspect robbed the Wells Fargo on N. Swan again. On May 7, 2015, the suspect robbed the US Bank located at 1940 E. Broadway Boulevard and then on May 13, 2015, the suspect robbed the Bank of the West located at 7225 N. Oracle Road (Oro Valley). During the Oro Valley bank robbery witnesses saw the suspect run to a vehicle and were able to give investigators a description. On May 21, 2015, agents with the FBI conducted surveillance and located a vehicle similar to the one described by witnesses. The vehicle was located near the Bank of the West and agents followed the vehicle to the Wells Fargo Bank at 3275 N. Swan Road. The driver was then stopped by officers with the Tucson Police Department and he was identified as 41-year-old Gene Garland. Mr. Garland resembled the suspect from the recent bank robbery photos and detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Robbery Unit responded to speak with him.
A search warrant was obtained by detectives from the Tucson Police Department, Oro Valley Police Department and agents with the FBI. Garland’s home and vehicle were searched. Items of evidentiary value were located, connecting him to the recent robberies. Garland was booked into the Pima County Jail on four counts of robbery.
