Carol Ann Sacca, 59, has been arrested and booked into MCSO 4th Avenue Jail for her role in a three-vehicle fatal collision on Aug. 26.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officers responded to the collision on eastbound State Route 101 at milepost 29.5 when Sacca driving a sedan was traveling the wrong way, heading westbound in the eastbound lanes, struck a motorcycle head on driven by Scott Benson, 43, Tempe, and caused another motorcyclist, to take evasive action and crash too.
Benson was transported to JCL hospital where he was pronounced dead, Sacca and the thrid driver were transported for non-life-threatening injuries.
Driver and witness statements indicate that Sacca was traveling northbound on S.R. 51 where she took the eastbound S.R. 101 ramp, once she got to the end of the ramp driver of vehicle #1 made a u-turn and headed westbound in the eastbound HOV lane were she continued till the collision occurred.
Further charges may be pending upon blood sample results. Charges include 2ND Degree Murder, 3 counts of Endangerment and 1 count of Criminal damage.
