Many Involved In Ramsey Canyon Rescue

On Sunday June 14, 2015 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an injured hiker in the Ramsey Canyon area. The callers advised that they were hiking in the canyon when they heard a man calling for help.

The callers left a beacon on the trail and came back down to call for help.

The Search and Rescue team was activated and located the 64 year old Sierra Vista man who appeared to be suffering from a broken ankle. The man said that he had been stranded since yesterday when he went to hike in the area and hurt his ankle jumping down from a rock.

The Fry Fire and Sierra Vista Fire Department Technical Response Team responded to the area to remain on standby while the Pima County Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded and provided a short haul which lifted the injured man to a landing zone in order for him to be evaluated and transported to the Canyon Vista hospital.
