After hearing from too many other parents and educators about their displeasure with the direction in which the Tucson Unified School District is going, A TUSD parent Brian Sauber agreed to pick up the mantle and begin the official recall effort against TUSD Governing Board Members Adelita Grijalva, Cam Juarez and Kristel Foster.
Sauber told popular Tucson radio host James T. Harris on Thursday (listen here) that he has already heard from many residents who are eager to sign and circulate the recall petitions. Sauber a parent, chairman of the Parents for Ethics in TUSD recall committee, told Harris, “the straw that broke the camel’s back was the 24 percent raise the Board gave to Dr. Sanchez.” He explained that teachers work tirelessly and cannot understand how the Board could give them a meager raise at the same time they awarded Sanchez an exorbitant contract.
Sauber, a parent and former TUSD employee, says he isn’t afraid of the attacks he knows will come from the desperate Board members. He says the recall is necessary to change the culture of fear and intimidation among teachers and classified staff. Earlier this year, he and many others urged the Board to make financially sound board decisions, but the pleas fell on deaf ears.
Sauber announced on Harris’s show that he will be at the Wilmot Library on Saturday, July 25 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to collect signatures and hand out petitions to people willing to circulate them. To learn more about the recall visit tusdrecall.com.
