Oro Valley Armed Robber Nabbed

A suspect involved in 11 different armed robberies throughout Tucson and Oro Valley has been arrested. On July 21, 2015, detectives from the Tucson Police Department located 30-year-old Ayyub Baruni at a hotel in Marana.

The armed robberies started in late June and continued through July of this year. Several hotels, eating establishments and a dry cleaning service were among the businesses that had been targeted. In each incident the suspect used a handgun and demanded money from the victims. During the investigation the Tucson Police Department learned that the Oro Valley Police Department was looking at a possible suspect involved in their case. They advised they were looking at an individual by the name of Ayyub Baruni.

Baruni had also been named as a possible suspect in one of the armed robberies that the Tucson Police Department was investigating. Baruni was similar in description to the armed robbery suspect described in the city, county and Oro Valley cases. His girlfriend owned a vehicle that was similar in description to one described in several of the robberies.

A search warrant was obtained for Baruni’s hotel room and vehicle. Investigators with the Tucson Police Department, Oro Valley Police Department and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department worked together on the search warrant and collected multiple items of evidentiary value, linking Baruni to 11 different armed robberies. Baruni was booked into the Pima County Jail for armed robbery charges related to 7 robberies in the City of Tucson, 3 in Pima County and 1 in Oro Valley. This was a great example of agencies working together to get a violent criminal off the streets.
