177 Catalina Foothills Students Named 2015 AP Scholars

One hundred and seventy-seven students from Catalina Foothills High School were recognized as 2015 AP Scholars.

The AP Scholars represent the diverse geographical population of our award-winning high school, drawing from neighborhoods in and around the greater Tucson area.

The AP Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams with the AP Scholar Awards. These are college-level courses and exams, enabling high school students to earn college credit or placement. Catalina Foothills High School (CFHS) offers eighteen (18) AP courses, including AP Calculus, AP Chinese and AP Environmental Science.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement on Advanced Placement exams. Exam results are on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. Of the 177 AP scholars at CFHS:

  • 53 are AP Scholars who earned scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. (CFHS average score = 3.18)
  • 56 are AP Scholars with Honor who earned an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. (CFHS average score = 3.85)
  • 68 are AP Scholars with Distinction who earned anaverage score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more these exams. (CFHS average score = 4.22)

Among them are 10 National AP Scholars who earned an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. (CFHS average score = 4.55)

This distinction comes on the heels of Newsweek naming CFHS one of top U.S. High Schools in 2015.
