Custom Go-kart Seized Smuggling 200 pounds Of Pot By Yuma CBP

YUMA, Arizona — Approximately 400 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $200,000, was taken off the streets in separate incidents late last week thanks to the efforts of Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents.

During the first incident, Border Patrol agents recovered a go-kart that illegally crossed the U.S. border along the Colorado River, after its driver attempted to elude pursuing agents. After a brief chase, the driver bailed out of the go-kart and absconded back to Mexico. Agents immediately secured the go-kart, and discovered 203 pounds of marijuana stuffed and strapped inside the vehicle. Agents say the estimated value of the load is $101,500.

Earlier that same day, a Border Patrol canine unit seized 195 pounds of marijuana discovered in the trunk of a vehicle travelling through the Highway 95 checkpoint. The estimated value of the drugs was $97,500.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents effectively combat smuggling organizations attempting to illegally transport people and contraband through southwestern Arizona and California. On a typical day in Fiscal Year 2014, CBP seized 10,327 pounds of drugs while conducting operations nationwide.
