GoDaddy’s Jones Could Give Sinema A Run For Her Money

The results of a recent survey of a hypothetical matchup between U.S Rep Kyrsten Sinema and former GoDaddy Executive Christine Jones in Arizona’s Congressional District 9 show that in a head-to-head match up between the two-term congresswoman and the former gubernatorial candidate, Sinema bests Jones 46-33.

Another 21 percent were undecided, according to a poll by MBQF and Marson Media.

In the most recent automated telephonic survey of 370 high efficacy voters across all parties in CD-9, conducted on October 1, 2015, the survey calculates a 5.09% theoretical margin of error, plus or minus in percentage points, 95% of the time.

While Jones trails, the poll shows voters in the district may be open to some of Jones’ strongest messages. Thirty-four percent of respondents said fiscal issues, including the budget and taxes, was their most important issue. Another 15 percent named immigration their most important issue. Jones emerged as a staunch opponent of illegal immigration in 2014 and her business experience as the general counsel for GoDaddy gives her business credibility.

Barrett Marson, a public relations consultant, said “Rep. Sinema is a tireless campaigner and prodigious fundraiser but this new poll shows she could be vulnerable as she seeks a third term. Christine Jones has maintained a high profile since her failed bid for governor last year. Her personal wealth and continued spot in the limelight makes her the logical choice to take on Rep. Sinema.”

The survey asked two questions of voters. The first was, “If the election were held today for Congress in your district, which of the following candidates, listed in alphabetical order by last name, would you be most likely to vote for?”

Kyrsten Sinema45.9%
Christine Jones32.7%

The second question was phrased, “From the following list, which issue is personally most important to you in deciding your vote in the General election for Congress?”

Important IssuesResults
Fiscal Issues: Taxes, Budget, Jobs, Unemployment34.3%
Values issues: Life, Marriage8.9%
Immigration issues: Immigration Status, Border Security14.9%
Health issues: Healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid15.1%
Defense Issues: Terrorism, Military, Veterans7.0%
Rights Issues: Gun Rights, Privacy Rights, Property Rights3.0%

Pollster Michael Noble said, “Christine Jones continues to be a force in Arizona politics and these numbers show Christine has the perfect make up to unseat an incumbent. With more than one-third of voters identifying fiscal issues as their top concern, former GoDaddy executive Christine Jones sits in an enviable position as she considers her options. And an added bonus for Jones, this year voters are throwing unprecedented support behind candidates with no experience as an officeholder. Christine Jones could be Rep. Sinema’s toughest opponent yet.”
