
On September 20, 2015, just before 3:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in an apartment complex in the 3500 block of North 1st Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located 34 year-old Hinh Hoang in an apartment with gunshot trauma.
The officers immediately provided medical treatment to the vicitm using their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Members from the Tucson Fire Department responded and continued treatment. The male was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after arrival, the victim was pronounced deceased.
Detectives continued their investigation into this homicide and were able to determine on September 20, 2015 Mr. Hoang was at an apartment in the 3500 block of North 1st Avenue with several other people. At some point, Mr. Hoang and an adult male acquaintance engaged in a verbal dispute. The dispute turned physical and eventually the male produced a gun and shot Mr. Hoang. The male then fled the scene. Through the investigation, the detectives were able to identify the male as 29 year-old James Rushing III. Detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for Mr. Rushing III for Second Degree Murder.
On October 5, 2015 information was received through 88-CRIME of a possible location of Mr. Rushing III. The U.S. Marshals located Mr. Rushing III in the 5700 block of East 26th Street. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Pima County Jail for Second Degree Murder.
