Williams Area Elk Poachers Identity Sought

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking information about the recent poaching of a cow elk two miles north of Williams.

The elk was shot Sept. 30 or Oct. 1 in Game Management Unit 10, near the junction of forest roads 124 and 15. The location was less than 50 yards off Forest Road 15 near Holden Lake. The cow was killed during a bull-only hunting season.

All of the meat had been removed from the carcass. The head and hide had been left behind.

“Evidence was collected at the scene, but help from the public will play a critical role in finding those responsible,” said Noah Silva, wildlife manager for Unit 10. “This is not the act of a hunter. Poaching is a crime. It is important for anyone with information to come forward and help Game and Fish bring those responsible to justice.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the department’s Operation Game Thief hotline at (800) 352-0700, or visit www.azgfd.gov/thief, and refer to case #15-003178. Callers may be eligible for a reward up to $500 in this case. Callers can remain confidential upon request.
