The Benson Police Department has received several reports whereas single females are being targeted online via dating/meeting websites. These women are being being asked to send items and/or money, via Western Union, to foreign countries.
The scammers have money directed mostly to Africa.
According to Benson Police, these women are unwillingly/unknowingly being drawn into a criminal enterprise by which funds are obtained illegally and then forwarded to countries known to harbor or sponsor terrorists. If you have met anyone online and have been asked to send items or money, please be cautious. If you have questions or concerns please contact your local law enforcement for assistance.
