Longoria Heads To Phoenix, PCC Board Candidates Sought

David Longoria resigned from the Pima Community College Board of Governors to take a the Chief of Staff spot for City of Phoenix Councilwoman Laura Pastor, representing District 4. Arizona law requires the appointment of a successor be made by Dr. Linda Arzoumanian, the Pima County Superintendent of Schools.

Longoria earned his spot on the PCC Board due to his relationship with Dan Eckstrom’s daughter, Jennifer Eckstrom, while she was serving the mayor of South Tucson and assistant to Pima County Supervisor Ramón Valadez. Longoria has been employed by Pima County as an executive assistant to Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry, according to an article in a 2013 edition of the Tucson Weekly.

Longoria was appointed in February 2010 to serve as Board member for District 2. He was elected in November 2010 for the 2011-2016 term.

Longoria said in a PCC press release, “I am very thankful for the opportunity to have served my community as a Board member, and feel exceedingly honored to have had the tremendous chance to work with so many supremely talented individuals during my time on the Board. I am endlessly grateful for the work, guidance and support that my colleagues throughout the organization, at every level, have selflessly continued to offer. The College is certainly lucky to have them all, but I cannot deny that I have been made a better and stronger public servant as a result of their efforts as well.”

Arzoumainian is accepeting applications for Longoria’s replacement. As per her standard practice, the process will be secretive and the final selection will be one acceptable to Congressman Raul Grijala, Dan Eckstrom, and Pima County administrator Chuck Huckelberry.
