Democratic candidates bring outside help to Reno campaign
The two Democratic presidential front-runners brought in liaisons Friday to help with outreach to critical voting blocs for the 2016 election.
One of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ chief allies in Congress, Arizona U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, spoke to a group at the University of Nevada, Reno as well as pitched the senator’s campaign platform to several groups privately. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign enlisted California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to help engage Latino voters.
Grijalva, the first person from Congress to endorse Sanders, started the afternoon’s events by meeting with a group of volunteers at UNR. He talked for roughly 30 minutes to the group about Sanders’ positions and the criticisms lodged against him before encouraging the group of around 15 to take part in a voter registration drive on campus.
