Female Student Skydiver Killed, Instructor Injured In Pinal County

The Pinal County Sheriff County Office 9-1-1 call center received report of a skydiving accident near W. Bowlin Road and N. Hidden Valley Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a tandem student/instructor skydive team had hard impact after their parachute failed to adequately deploy to safely slow their descent.

Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful for the 26-year-old female student, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 40-year-old male instructor sustained 2 broken legs and was transported to a local emergency room for treatment. The instructor is expected to survive his injuries. The instructor is employed by Skydive Phoenix Inc.

PCSO will conduct the death investigation in conjunction with the Pinal Medical Examiner. The FAA will conduct their own investigation to assure federal regulations were followed.
