On November 20, at 12:45 p.m., detention officers at the PCSO Adult Detention Center discovered a 23-year-old male inmate unconscious in his cell after other inmates notified them of the inmate’s situation.
After finding the inmate in full-code, detention staff immediately began emergency lifesaving aid and called for an ambulance for transport to a local emergency room. He never regained consciousness, but had been brought back to having a pulse before transport. The inmate remains in critical condition and on life-support. The inmate was in PCSO jail on local charges for domestic violence.
PCSO investigators have learned that the inmate had hung himself with a bed sheet in his cell just prior to being found. Other inmates in the housing unit found him and removed the sheet from around his neck, then notified staff. Upon speaking to the inmate’s family, one hour after the incident, they informed detectives that the inmate had told them earlier in the day that he was going to kill himself. They did not notify PCSO at that time.
It appears at this point in the investigation that the injuries to the inmate were self inflicted. There is no foul play suspected.
