Arizona To Pay Over $300K In Same-sex Marriage Matter

Arizona has agreed to pay $302,140 to the plaintiffs’ in a case against the State’s ban on same-sex marriage.

According to The National Law Journal, attorneys with Lambda Legal, “claimed an hourly rate of $525 in 2014 and $540 in 2015. They claimed that the case required a significant amount of work because of the state’s “voluminous” filings and additional rounds of briefing on behalf of clients who asked for immediate relief from the court.

In October 2014, U.S. District Judge John Sedwick issued an order finding that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that declared Idaho and Nevada’s marriage restrictions unconstitutional applied to Arizona.

In June 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.
