The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the report of an overturned tram at Kartchner Caverns State Park south of Benson. Additional agencies responded to attend to 11 people who were injured.
The tram was headed up a hill on its way to the caverns at approximately 11 a.m. Friday. The three car electric tram fell off the side of the road. Passengers were ejected. Three of the injured were taken to hospitals in Sierra Vista and Benson.
Cave tours were canceled after the accident. Tours are expected to resume on Saturday.
The Federal Park Service will be continuing the investigation into this incident.
