Phoenix Bus Strike Ends

Phoenix bus strike ends

Leaders of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1433 announced today that union members have approved a new collective bargaining agreement and will return to work Saturday, Jan. 16. Members of the ATU have been on strike since last Friday, Jan. 8, affecting 34 Transdev-operated routes in Phoenix.

Limited service continues today on 13 of the 34 Transdev-operated routes. Now that the union has accepted the deal, service will return to normal Saturday, Jan. 16 on all local routes and RAPID service will resume Tuesday, Jan. 19 after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

While Tempe bus routes and Valley Metro Rail were not affected by the strike, many Tempe passengers who connect to routes outside of Tempe were impacted.

Since the strike began, the city of Phoenix has worked with Transdev to provide Saturday-limited service on some of the city’s highest ridership routes.
