Luke F-16 Crashes, Taiwanese Pilot Presumed Dead

An F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base flown by a student pilot from the Taiwanese air force crashed in northwestern Arizona Thursday, according to the U.S. Air Force.

Brig Gen Scott Pleus, 56th Fighter Wing commander, held a press conference and reported that the pilot is presumed deceased. The plane crashed around 8:45 a.m.

Pleus advised that the student pilot was being trained in a “high G[-force] maneuver between two aircraft in an air-to-air fight.”
