The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a structure fire in the 2300 block of West Sunset Lane in Pirtleville at approximately 5:30 am on Monday.
Douglas Fire Department who arrived on scene along with Sheriff’s deputies. Units on scene advised that there was a man and woman inside of the home at the time of the fire, along with 5 dogs.
Douglas Fire, Elfrida Fire, and Pirtleville Fire were on scene to fight the fire, however the structure was a total loss.
Both of the occupants suffered serious burns, the woman was transported to a local hospital while the man was airlifted to an unspecified location.
Douglas animal control responded along with Sheriff’s Office animal control and located one deceased dog. The remaining four puppies were taken to the Douglas Animal Shelter for safe keeping pending additional information for the home occupants is received.
The investigation is being continued to identify the exact cause of the fire and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
