Officers seized 23 pounds of marijuana from the back of a smuggling vehicle referred for further inspection at the DeConcini crossing

Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Rio Rico, Arizona man for an alleged attempt to smuggle approximately 23 pounds of marijuana, worth about $11,700, through the Port of Nogales Feb. 23.

Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred the 45-year-old man for further inspection of his Chevrolet truck when he attempted to enter the U.S. as a SENTRI cardholder. Officers searching the vehicle found two packages of marijuana within the truck’s bed.

In addition to revoking his Secure Electronic Network for Travelers for Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) privileges and seizing the vehicle and drugs, officers turned the subject over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
