The San Francisco Giants open their Cactus League season when they host the Los Angeles Angels at 1:05 p.m. today Wednesday, March 2, at Scottsdale Stadium, 7408 E. Osborn Road.
Several parking and traffic control changes are in place this year to make it easier for fans to get to the games. They include a new fan drop off/pick up zone along Drinkwater Boulevard adjacent to the stadium.
The Scottsdale Spring Training Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, to celebrate the start of the Cactus League.
The free, family-friendly event runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. There will be hands-on activities focused around the science of baseball, meet and greets, storytellers, skill tests, memorabilia vendors, food and music.
A celebration for inductees into the 2016 Cactus League Hall of Fame takes place at 6:45 p.m. and a free screening of “The Sandlot,” gets going under the stars at 7:15 p.m.
Also on Saturday, the Scottsdale Giant Race, benefiting the Scottsdale Charros charities, begins at 7 a.m. at Scottsdale Stadium. Race distances include 3 mile, 9K and a kids race/family relay.
