Maricopa County Partnership Sends Saves Dogs

On March 9th, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved to extend its contract with HALO Animal Rescue until April 30, 2017. HALO’s operations are based in Maricopa County Animal Care & Control’s (MCACC) Phoenix care center.

The two animal welfare agencies have worked together during the past three years to save the lives of thousands of homeless pets. On Tuesday, March 15th, HALO and MCACC will help nearly 60 small-breed dogs by sending them to the Idaho Humane Society. The shelter, which is located in Boise, is eager to receive the tiny dogs and anticipates being able to quickly place them into loving homes. In discussions for future transports, the Idaho Humane Society is also interested in receiving larger dogs and open to those that may have medical or behavioral challenges.

Dog Is My CoPilot, Inc. (DIMC) will be flying the dogs to Boise at no cost. DIMC works to relocate animals from areas of the United States where pet homelessness is an issue, to other parts of the country where those pets are in high demand. HALO and MCACC plan to waive any fees associated with the dogs.

“We are excited to be part of the maiden flight to Idaho on DMIC’s newest plane. We will be able to find even more dogs new homes through our partners in the NW regions now,” said Heather Allen, CEO of HALO Animal Rescue.

“We are truly thankful to have developed quality partnerships that allow more animals to be adopted. With HALO, we look forward to finding more adopters to open their hearts and homes – whether they are in Arizona, Idaho, Missouri or even Canada,” said MCACC Acting Director, Valerie Beckett.
