
Early this morning around 2:30 am Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to 9215 S. Calle Sahuaro in regards to a shooting.
Sheriffs deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the victim, requesting the fire department respond to his location in the side yard to render medical assistance for a gunshot wound. The Guadalupe Fire Department responded and then transported the victim to the Maricopa Medical Center in critical condition. The suspect was not located at the residence and there was no suspect description given at the time the victim was transported.
The scene was secured by Sheriff’s Deputies, the Tempe Police Department, the Phoenix Police Department and the Department of public Safety. At least one spent shell casing was located in the alley just to the east of the above residence (directly east of the residence by the rear wall) as well as drug paraphernalia.
The handgun was not located at the scene but detectives have determined the victim Roy Uriate was shot one time. Blood was located and observed around the rear wall, the back carport area and side yard at the above address.
Roy was in surgery, but in stable condition however he is being uncooperative with detectives and will not give sheriff’s investigators any information about the shooting.
In addition detectives interviewed several witnesses who stated they saw nothing.
