DPS to step-up DUI enforcement on Super Bowl Sunday

trafic-carsThe Arizona Department of Public Safety will be stepping-up its DUI enforcement efforts this Super Bowl Sunday. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, and continuing through the morning of Monday, Feb. 3, DPS will have a large contingent of additional officers participating in DUI saturation patrols on freeways throughout the Phoenix area.

The additional patrol officers are intended to be a visible deterrent to those motorists who might otherwise drive while impaired.

DPS will also have additional resources in place to assist with the processing of those motorists, who are arrested for suspicion of DUI.

The additional resources and personnel greatly increase the efficiency with which a motorist arrested for suspicion of DUI can be investigated, processed and booked into jail. This results in officers being able to return to patrol duty much faster after making an arrest.

“The Super Bowl DUI Saturation Operation will be highly visible and staffed by additional DPS Highway Patrol Officers along with those officers who are normally scheduled for duty. We hope this operation will significantly reduce the number of impaired motorists on our roadways while sending a strong message that driving while impaired will not be tolerated,” Sgt. Jacob Pruet said.

A DUI Command Post will be set up at DPS headquarters located at 2102 W. Encanto Blvd. in Phoenix.

Drivers have a choice to not drink and drive. Numerous alternatives are available to get home which include: uber.com, lyft.me or discountcab.com (602/520-200-2000).
