A Mexican man was arrested Wednesday at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle more than 8,000 pounds (four tons) of marijuana into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa Port commercial facility referred a 30-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for additional inspection of a tractor-trailer he was driving.
After a CBP narcotics detection canine agent alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers discovered, removed and seized 298 bales of marijuana worth more than $4 million.
The drugs and truck were processed for seizure. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
