The Redington Fire is burning in rough terrain on the Coronado National Forest east of Tucson. It is 80 percent contained.
The fire was reported on Saturday, May 3, and by nightfall had burned an estimated 125 acres. It is located adjacent to Redington Road at approximately mile post 12.5.
Crews used measuring devices on Sunday afternoon to more accurately determine that the burned area is much reduced from the original estimate of 125 acres and was actually about 30 acres. This inaccuracy was due to ocular estimates that were deceived by steep terrain within the fire area.
On Monday, crews were working to complete a containment line and mopping up hot spots within the burned area.
The temporary flight restriction over the area has been lifted and the Redington Road has been reopened to the public.
