Mohave County Sheriff announces plans to retire August 1

Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan announced his plans this week to retire as Sheriff on August 1 after 33 years with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheahan began his career with the Du Page County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois in 1971 where he worked as a deputy and detective. Ten years later, Sheriff Sheahan moved to Arizona and began with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. In 1996 he was elected sheriff in 1996. The people of Mohave County elected him to serve five consecutive terms.

Sheriff Sheahan has served in a leadership capacity on numerous Boards and Commissions during his tenure as sheriff, serving as president of the Arizona Sherrifs Association and the Arizona County Attorney and Sheriffs Association. He has also served on the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board, the Arizona Homeland Security Regional Advisory Commission, as well as various other Arizona boards and commissions. Sheriff Sheahan currently serves as the Mohave County Representative on the AACo Board of Directors.

The Mohave County Board of Supervisors will appoint Sheriff Sheahan’s replacement upon his resignation. The Chief Deputy of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office will serve as Acting Sheriff until a replacement is named.

On retirement, he plans to relocate to Phoenix with his wife, Jo, joining his daughter, Cyndi, and son, Mike.
