ADOT to install traffic detectors in SR 90 east of Sierra Vista

Motorists traveling on State Route 90 east of Sierra Vista will encounter lane closures on Monday and Friday of next week while the Arizona Department of Transportation installs traffic detectors in the highway as part of the installation of a new pedestrian-activated crosswalk signal.

Work to install the detectors in the eastbound lanes of SR 90 will be done from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, when alternating lane closures will be required. One lane of traffic on eastbound SR 90 will remain open during the work and brief delays can be expected.

On Friday, Dec. 5, detectors will be installed at SR 90 and Rainbow Way/Toscanini Avenue between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. This work will also require a lane closure and brief delays can be expected.

The work is part of a project to improve pedestrian safety in the area, including the installation of a pedestrian hybrid beacon crossing that allows pedestrians to stop on-coming traffic and safely cross the highway.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
