Late Cochise County Sheriff Dever honored with regional firing range

deverOn Monday December 15, 2014, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels hosted the official dedication of the Larry A. Dever Memorial firing range to honor the late Sheriff Dever.

Dever, a highly popular lawman, was killed in a car accident in 2012.

In his opening speech, Sheriff Dannels said, “We gather today not to mourn, but to honor, celebrate, and pay tribute to a man who spent his entire life creating opportunities and avenues of achievement for others.”

Sheriff Dannels went on to say, “Larry was not just a citizen, but a person who truly made a difference in our lives, and I speak both in a personal and professional manner. No one could ever challenge his dedication and passion for his family and Nancy and his boys were top topics in many conversations here at the Sheriff’s office.”

And in his closing remarks Sheriff Dannels finished by stating, “Today we have the distinct honor to recognize Sheriff Dever’s achievements by placing his name as a forever monument to his legacy and to ensure our future law enforcement deputies/officers will never forget the endless sacrifices he gave for others. Larry’s legacy will be embraced along side of Western Lawmen such as Sheriff Jimmy Judd who ultimately recognized the value of hiring Larry. Together, their names embrace the legacy of true history of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. We thank Sheriff Dever for allowing us to truly Lead the Way.”
