Scottsdale man beats crook with shovel

A Scottsdale homeowner arrived home, which is under renovation early this morning. When he entered the house, he found a crook stealing his construction equipment.

The crook, Samuel Facio Porras, age 54, was in the process loading the victim’s property into a white pickup in the alley behind the house, according to the police report. Facio Porras then attempted to flee in the truck.

The homeowner gave chase and jumped into the back of fleeing truck. Facio Porras then began to drive recklessly in an attempt to throw the homeowner from the bed of the truck. In an attempt to stop Facio Porras, the homeowner grabbed a shovel and smashed out the rear window of the pickup. The homeowner then began to hit Facio Porras with the shovel.

Facio Porras then stopped the pickup in the area of Miller and Palm. The homeowner continued to scuffle with Facio Porras and ordered him to unload the stolen construction equipment. Facio Porras complied, unloading all of the stolen items onto the curb. An off-duty police employee witnessed the incident and radioed the information to on-duty police officers. Facio Porras then attempted to flee again in the pickup. The homeowner used the shovel to smash out the driver side window of the pickup before the suspect was able to get away.

Scottsdale police officers quickly located Facio Porras’s pickup at Scottsdale and McDowell where the truck was stopped. Facio Porras was arrested for Burglary, Criminal Damage, Endangerment and other charges. Facio Porras was treated at the hospital for injuries sustained in the incident prior to being booked into jail.
