Recently, Tucson Police detectives received a tip from a citizen who saw a media broadcast of the surveillance photographs depicting the suspects in this case. The tip identified one of the suspects as 33-year-old Roberto Rivera.
His identity was confirmed, and the US Marshals assisted the Tucson Police Department by beginning attempts to apprehend Rivera.
On the morning of December 18, 2015, Marshals attempted to apprehend Rivera at a residence in the 3300 block of South Belmar Ave. Rivera attempted to hit Marshals with a blue SUV bearing Sonoran license plates as he fled from the residence. Rivera abandoned the SUV in an unknown location.
Subsequently, a coordinated effort to apprehend Rivera was launched involving the Marshals, as well as several Tucson Police patrol and specialized units. Through surveillance, Rivera was located and captured in the area of Roger and Fort Lowell after a short foot pursuit. Home Invasion detectives served two search warrants and recovered a stolen gun, items stolen during the home invasion, and further evidence implicating Rivera. Rivera was booked into the Pima County Jail for Armed Robbery, Aggravated Robbery, Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.
