Maricopa County Sheriff’s Detectives Seize Distressed Animals

Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives rescued 15 animals including dogs, birds, ducks, geese and a guinea pig that were found underfed and neglected in Tonopah, this week.

Neighbors contacted the Sheriff’s office to complain about the animals and the unsanitary conditions. The residence is located at 38117 W Portland St in Tonopah. The home owner is currently being investigated, but these conditions were in place well before the hospitalization took place. The conditions were of a severe hoarding scenario for animals and detectives found decaying food throughout the entire house.

Sheriff Arpaio says with this current record breaking heat it is unacceptable to leave animals in disgusting and extreme living conditions (100 degree temperature in the house).

The home owner who was identified as Pat Mahan (DOB 10/19/1942) will be charged with 15 misdemeanor counts of Animal neglect, and possibly more charges to follow pending medical examinations.
