The Arizona Corporation Commission approved a service agreement for Arizona Public Service Company (APS) to provide electric services to Aligned Data Centers LLC at a reduced rate.
The agreement allows Aligned LLC, a high load factor customer, to pay less for energy without a burden to other customers. The Commission approved similar agreements with eBay in June of last year, and with IOData LLC in December of 2014. High load factor customers are cheaper to serve because their electricity usage stays at a near constant level.
Aligned Data Centers LLC is constructing a $600 million new data center in North Phoenix at Interstate 17 and Union Hills Road and anticipates a high load factor.
The data center will provide construction jobs starting late this year and permanent jobs once operational.
Additionally, Aligned LLC will pay property and other taxes. Aligned LLC and APS are also sharing the costs of a micro-grid project at that location that will be used for backup power for Aligned and support for APS customers in a power service disruption.
