On November 13, 2016, just before 1:00 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a single vehicle motorcycle collision at West Ajo Way and South Kostka Avenue. Multiple witnesses were on scene and directed the first responders to the unconscious motorcyclist.
Tucson Fire immediately transported the adult male victim to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Several hours after arriving at the hospital, the victim sadly passed away.
Tucson Police Traffic Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the victim was traveling eastbound in the median lane of W. Ajo Way, approaching the intersection of South Kostka Ave. There is heavy construction in that area with multiple signs guiding traffic around the road work. As the victim entered the construction area, he struck a roadway barrier head-on and was thrown from his 1997 Yamaha motorcycle.
Speed appears to be a factor in the collision. A helmet was located on scene, however it is unknown if the victim was wearing it at the time of the collision.
The victim’s name is currently being withheld pending next of kin notification.
