Smuggler asks Border Patrol agents for directions

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized hundreds of pounds of marijuana concealed in a false compartment after he stopped to ask for directions.

Agents from the Sonoita Border Patrol Station were approached by a 21-year-old United States citizen male hauling what appeared to be a stack of lumber in the back of a pickup truck. The subject appeared lost and requested directions from the agents. Based on the discussion, agents became suspicious the driver may be involved in illegal activity and requested the assistance of a canine team.

Subsequently, agents discovered 621 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $310,500 hidden within the stack of 2’x4’ lumber covered with plywood. The narcotics will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the subject faces possible prosecution
