On Saturday, June 21, 2014 Defensive Tackle James Towles, Wide Receiver Matt Ramirez, and Running Back Ian Compas from the Florence High School Football Team will be representing FHS at the Division 4/5 All-Star Football Game in Show Low, Arizona at 6:00pm. The game will be live on radio station 106.7 and video on www.aia365.com will also be provided live.
Before the game, there will be a ceremony honoring recently deceased Florence Head Football Coach Steve McKane. The Arizona Coaches Association will be presenting current Head Coach, and father of Steve McKane, William (Bill) McKane with a plaque honoring his son and former FHS Coach who died suddenly during the 2013 football season. Bill McKane has since agreed to work at Florence High School and will be taking over Head Coaching Duties in place of his son this season.
The coaches for this game will be Randy Ricedorff (Show Low High School), Ron Kenney (Unknown High School), and Rodger Shenks (San Tan Valley High School). Assistant coaches for this game will be from the Florence High School Staff and will include Offensive Coordinator J.T. Neal, Defensive Coordinator Scott Howard, and Bill McKane.

Superintendent Fuller said, “Coach McKane has left a legacy at Florence High School and FUSD. At the young age of 38 he accomplished more than many do in a lifetime. The FHS Gophers will never forget what “Get your mind right” [Coach McKane’s catch phrase] means as he used to remind them constantly. He taught them they could accomplish anything if they were self-disciplined. I can’t think of a better lesson a student could learn. His legacy will stay with FUSD forever.”
