At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday March 1 2016, US Border Patrol attempted to stop a Dodge SUV they believed to be involved in drug smuggling along I-8 near Vekol Rd.
They asked for assistance from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department when the vehicle fled. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle along SR 84, but were unsuccessful due to the dangerous driving and high speeds of the fleeing vehicle. As the vehicle entered the city limits of Casa Grande, CGPD officers attempted to stop the SUV, but were unable to. The SUV entered I-10 and headed toward Phoenix.
When the fleeing vehicle left Pinal County to the north, Pinal County deputies disengaged and the pursuit was picked up by DPS troopers.
The vehicle eventually stopped at a Phoenix convenience store, where DPS took suspects in to custody and recovered bales of marijuana.
